Don’t want to live with spiders? Probably your answer would be ‘no’ to spiders in your living spaces. Perhaps they should not be in your home or even sharing your outdoor space. Most of us have an innate fear of spiders and some people have arachnophobia! Everyone has a level of tolerance when it comes to pests. I have experienced quite a range of tolerances. The point is that when you share a space with family or friends, it would be best to not have spiders hanging around.

Most spiders are beneficial in the sense that they trap and eat other bugs. The dangerous ones are hiding out in dark spaces. The brown recluse spider says it all in its name, though rumored; fortunately, it is not present in Oregon. The black widow also prefers to be left alone in the dark. So, always wear gloves when moving a wood pile or reaching under the deck. The garden spiders that get really fat outside that are webbed between your bushes — I leave it up to my clients whether they should stay or not. They usually do not trespass inside the house. Then of course there are the giant house spiders that can span the breadth of your palm. The ones you see scurrying across the floor at speeds up to 83 mph are males looking for females. Females are usually in their web. They have messy webs that also have a funnel shape. They can cause your heart to skip a beat!
